The UN has labelled the situation in Aleppo as "catastrophic". Jan Egeland, chairman of the humanitarian task force, told reporters that medical assistance was severely hampered, with workers being blocked from reaching patients, and supplies like trauma kits and medicines being taken from convoys. He also called for better access to 35 besieged areas in May.
He said, "the catastrophic deterioration in Aleppo over the last 24-48 hours, and also in parts of the Homs area was reported live to the members of the ISSG today. No one doubted the severity of the situation, and now no one is now uncertain about the consequences. So what I am saying is that the lifeline to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people that have had hopes that things would really get better now -- that lifeline may be broken."
