China has sent its first batch of humanitarian aid to quake-hit Ecuador to help with relief work.

Four planes carrying some U.S.$9.5 million worth of aid arrived in the capital, Quito, Wednesday.

It includes 5,400 tents, and nearly 10,000 folding beds. The relief supplies are expected to reach the ravaged city of Manta in western Ecuador Thursday. This aid is in addition to a U.S.$2 million donation delivered last week by the Chinese government.

The magnitude-7.8 earthquake that struck Ecuador earlier this month has killed more than 650 people and destroyed thousands of buildings.
