It's been a week now since the devastating earthquake struck Ecuador. President Rafael Correa said during a television broadcast the death toll has risen to 646.
Last Saturday's 7.8-magnitude quake was the worst to hit the country in nearly seven decades. Twelve thousand are injured and 130 are still missing along the country's ravaged Pacific coast. More than 700 aftershocks have impaired search and rescue operations. Tremors are expected to continue for several weeks.
In the speech, Correa praised the dozens of countries who sent rescue teams, and acknowledged there was a tough road ahead to rebuild the country. Correa has estimated damage at two to three billion US dollars.
