Full coverage: Paris Climate Agreement
The US has hailed China's role on the issue of climate change. Secretary of State John Kerry said that China has showed leadership during the whole process of securing the Paris accord. Earlier Xie Zhenhua, the Chinese Special Representative for Climate Change, talked to us about his understanding of the role China has played.
"China and the US have very good cooperation on climate change, just like US Secretary of State John Kerry said, the two countries have the new type of major country relations, and that is reflected in how we dealt with climate change. In 2014, leaders of both countries delivered the first joint declaration on climate change."
"It published the targets set by both until 2020, it also clarified prioritized sectors of cooperation between the largest developing and developed country. Both China and US published their own Determined Contributions, and that has led other countries to do the same. Thus 168 countries published their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions during the Paris meeting. Just as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said, the first joint declaration played a historic role," Xie zhenhua said.
