Syria's UN ambassador, Bashar Jaafari, has held his first meeting with UN envoy Staffan de Mistura in the latest round of peace talks in Geneva on Friday. He described the meeting as "constructive and fruitful".
"We discussed with the UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, his paper on the fundamental principles for peaceful solutions to the crisis in Syria. Today we submitted to Mr. de Mistura the Syrian amendments to his paper," he said.
The chief Syrian government negotiator said the UN mediator and his team will examine the government's proposed changes over the weekend, and then submit the paper to other groups. The two sides are set to further discuss the amendments when they meet next time on Monday.
The government delegation arrived in Geneva on Friday for the new round of UN-brokered Syria peace talks, which is expected to last ten days.
