Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations office at Geneva, Ma Zhaoxu, met with UN mediator for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, on Wednesday -- to discuss China's positive role in the Middle East. 

Ma Zhaoxu thanked Mistura for pushing the Syrian peace talks forward and expressed hope that all parties involved could use this opportunity to find a political solution to the crisis.

Ma reiterated China's stance that it always supports political solutions, achieved through dialogue.

The UN envoy thanked China for playing a positive role in the region and for supporting his work as UN mediator. Mistura said he looks forward to China continuing to play a constructive role in the future.
