The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has sought to launch a ballistic missile into its eastern waters, but it is believed that the attempt failed, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.
According to Yonhap, the DPRK attempted to launch what seems to be an intermediate range Musudan missile but failed. The launch took place earlier Friday morning. This comes as the DPRK commemorates its most important national holiday today, the anniversary of Kim Il-Sung’s birth.
The Musudan missile is known to have a range of more than 3,000 km, possibly reaching the U.S.’s army base in Guam. South Korea’s defence ministry said the DPRK had not issued a no-fly or no-sail zone in the area, but South Korea was high on alert.
