China Regional Operas Gala begins in Hangzhou

The "Regional Operas Gala", an extravaganza featuring Chinese traditional operas, began on Wednesday in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province.

"Butterfly Lovers", a Shaoxing Opera classic, raised the curtain of the "Regional Operas Gala".

Twenty three opera genres hailing from provinces of Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Sichuan, Guizhou and Tibet Autonomous Region will take the stage over the coming days.

Led by awards-winning veteran artists, more than 15-hundred actors and actresses will be involved.

Tickets to the most of the shows are less than eighty yuan, or 11 U.S. dollars.

Held every three years, the "Regional Operas Gala" is sponsored by the Culture Ministry, to promote traditional culture.
