　　丁薇出生在南京---這個寧靜而又有著文化底蘊的城市，在那裏度過了她無憂無慮的童年，也是在那裏邁出了她音樂之旅的第一步。

　　Ding Wei was born in Nanjing, a city with a rich and varied culture and a tranquil environment, and she spent a happy, carefree childhood there. And it was here that she made the first step in her music career.

　　雖然二胡是她走入音樂殿堂的第一步，陪她度過了十年的時光，可是丁薇從未將二胡用在她的音樂中，對此她有著自己的解釋：

　　Although Ding Wei took the first steps in her music career with the erhu, which she studied for 10 years, Ding Wei never made use of the instrument in her own music. She has an explanation for this.

　　雖然説民族的就是世界的，但是我並不希望用我們的民樂去跟外國的流行歌曲一比高下，我到更希望有一天我也出一張全英文的專輯，然後拿到美國英國的市場上，和他們的唱片一起賣。

　　Although they say the closer it is to folk music, the more it’s universal. But I don’t want to compare our own folk music with foreign pop music. I hope someday I can put out an English album and sell it alongside American and British albums in their market.
