　　1． 歌名"You Gotta Be" 中gotta = have/has got to, 是“不得不, 必須”的意思，所以"You Gotta Be"，就是“你必須（變得怎樣）”的意思。

　　2． 歌曲第一句Listen as your day unfolds 中，“listen”在這裡不單單是“聽”，更有“留意聽，聽好了”的意思。因此這句話的意思是：當生活向你展開時，你要仔細聆聽。

　　3． “Stand up and be counted” 中的be counted也要注意一下。count表面上是“數數”，其實它還有“把…計算在內”的意思。“Stand up and be counted”就是：振作精神，用積極的態度參與到生活中來。

　　Synopsis of the film CHOCOLATE

　　This is a story about temptation, repression, and the liberating power of the senses. The film begins with a north wind blowing Vianne, a wandering mother, and her daughter Anouk into a small quiet French village in the winter of 1959. No one supposed that Vianne would bring such a storm to this deeply conservative village.

　　After she settles down, Vianne opens a chocolate shop, which sells all sorts of attractive chocolates. The location makes the shop very striking, and it attracts people’s attention. Vianne is good at discovering each person’s particular taste, and uses her cooking skill to satisfy customers’ appetite for delicious food, fulfilling their hidden desires.

　　Armande is an old lady in her seventies who are nevertheless still passionate and a freethinker. But her daughter Caroline is an obstinate woman, and she does not allow her son Luc to get in touch with his grandma Armande. And Josephine is a victim of domestic violence who for a long time has suffered her husband’s physical abuse. Vianne is trying her best to enable her to discover the freedom in her heart. The grieving widow and her secret admirer also receive behind-the-scenes help from Vianne.

　　Gradually, people are imperceptibly changed by Vianne’s freethinking and her tempting chocolate. They are willing to open their long-closed and despairing hearts to her, learning to add color to their lives, slowly discarding their fossilized and outmoded conventions.

　　The village dwellers’ transformation arouses the resentment of pious Mayor Comte De Reynaud. He fears that Vianne’s chocolate shop is going to destroy the peaceful, tranquil environment of the village, and so he takes Vianne as his enemy.

　　Reynaud and the more conservative citizens spearhead a drive to get rid of the chocolate shop. Reynaud is determined to shut the shop down, and Vianne is equally determined to keep it open.

　　Thanks to the influence of Vianne’s enlightened thinking, the villagers naturally stand by Vianne. And thus two irresistible forces confront each other in the tranquil French village.

　　At this moment, a group of Vianne’s allies appears, a group of wandering Gypsies. And Vianne cannot help falling in love with their leader, Roux. Outside there is a tempest brewing, but Vianne’s heart is boiling like hot chocolate in a melting pot.

　　At one point, one of Vianne’s allies, the elder Armande, mentions that she would like to have a party to celebrate her 70th birthday. In spite of Armande’s diabetes, Vianne decides to prepare a gourmet feast to make the old woman happy

　　They are having a wonderful time, unaware that a catastrophe is about to happen.

　　At the same time, Armande dies of her diabetes. And it seems that Vianne is to blame for the woman’s death. Out of despair, she decides to leave the village, but people find that they cannot go on without Vianne.

　　Comte De Reynaud soon discovers that all his efforts were in vain; and even his loyal Caroline no longer supports him. His heart having suffered the ultimate rebuke, Reynaud’s feeling of loss drives him mad.

　　In the end, Vianne’s tolerance melts Reynaud’s resentment.

　　As the spring blooms, the village is filled with the sounds of joy and laughter.

　　Vianne’s goodness, sincerity and her yearning for pleasure eventually change the conservative routine of the people.

　　這時候Vianne又多了一批新盟友，是一群乘船而來的吉普塞人。Vianne 情不自禁地愛上了他們的首領 Roux。即使外面風風雨雨，但 Vianne 心底濃郁的情感正像巧克力一樣熱騰騰地翻滾着。

　　這個時候，Vianne 的支持者 Armande 對 Vianne 説她想搞一個聚會來慶祝她70歲的生日，不顧 Armande 身患糖尿病，Vianne 打算舉辦一個美食宴，來讓這個老女人開心。

　　他們玩得很盡興，卻不知道一場真正的風暴正要來臨。

　　Armande 死於糖尿病，似乎 Vianne 應當為Armande 的死負有責任。

　　Vianne 已經絕望至極，她打算離開小村莊，但是人們發現他們已經離不開 Vianne 了。

　　不久 Reynaud 發現他所有的努力都是徒勞的，甚至他最忠誠的 Caroline 也不再支持他了。他的心靈受到極大的譴責，巨大的失落感使他瘋狂。

　　最後 Vianne 用她的寬容化解了 Reynaud 心裏的怨恨。春暖花開的時候歡聲笑語充滿了小村莊。Vianne 用她的善良和真誠還有她對快樂的嚮往改變了人們一成不變的生活。
