Indian and Pakistani border guards have exchanged greetings and candy at the Wagah border in India's northern Punjab state.

Saturday's exchange was in celebration of India's 63rd Independence Day.

A Pakistani Ranger and other officials came to the boundary line and handed over packets of candy to the Inspector General of India's paramilitary Border Security Force, Himmat Singh.

Singh said a cordial atmosphere prevailed at the border point during the exchange. India and Pakistan won freedom from the British at midnight on August the 14th and 15th in 1947.
