In a primitive and powerful world, our ancestors knew fear and joy and fire, worked wood and stone and water to make a place they could call home. The first peoples knew the world as a place of power. Their songs and dances and stories are negotiations with elemental powers. The first half of this performance shows them coming to terms with the world and with themselves.
The people in this section are those responsible for the creation of the Riverdance phenomenon. When Moya Doherty had the original idea, the dream became reality with the help of Bill Whelan, who began by composing the seven-minute Riverdance piece for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. From those beginnings, the show grew under the guidance of director John McColgan, along with the designers and the creative management team into Riverdance - The Show.
"Riverdance" leaves the audience in awe. The Celtic chanting, Irish step dancers and soloists are remarkable. The show blends many cultures; scenes are dedicated to Russian, African-American, Spanish and, of course, Irish heritage.
"Riverdance" modernizes Irish traditions and mesmerizes the audience from beginning to end. The dancers encourage the audiences to join in by clapping to the music and the musicians captivate with their unending talent, making the show a must-see.
