Dear Mr Yang Rui,

After more than thre years my term as Ambassador here in China has come to an end.

As I depart I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the close attention you have paid to in the work of the Delegation in Beijing. Your support and keen interest in EU-China affairs has always been a pleasure to note and has made my job much easier.

I consider myself fortunate to have been posted here during a period of such exciting and far reaching change, not least of all because of the many stimulating people I have had the pleasure to meet and work with.

You can rest assured that I will continue to track the fascinating development of this country from my new posting in Cairo with great interest and will forever keep China close to my heart.

I bid you farewell for now and hope that we might have the chance to communicate again not too distant future.
