October 3 is the day when the former East Germany and West Germany achieved the long-awaited reunification overnight back in 1990. Late German Chancellor Helmut Khol, who engineered the unification, was proved wrong when the costs of the integration had far exceeded the expectation. And unemployment in former East Germany triggered a rise of Xenophobia and even a backlash of Nazi sentiments. The strength of Germany is seriously eroded accordingly.

Now, the strongest economy in Europe, Germany wants to resume its international respect and influence by becoming a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Plus, the expanding Chinese market is attracting more German investment.The EU-China relations are warming up quickly.
