Hope in the Desert

Desertification is one of the major environmental issues in the world today, with a quarter of the global territory and nearly 100 million people are affected by it. China is one of the countries being affected by desertification but one which fights against it most. Since 1950th, the Chinese government has organized large scale tree planting for protection and management of forestry resources. Since China set March 12 as a National Tree Planting Day in 1979 people from all walks of life have participated in tree-planting and launched the national voluntary tree-planting campaign in earlier 1980s. Now Chinese people have gradually learned to take advantage of the desert in order to make more profit out of it. The most important thing to a desert and people living there is the hope that lies ahead of it.
