Sino-India relations have gone through highs and lows because of the 1962 border conflicts, Tibet and the nuclear tests. The up-coming visit to Beijing by Indian prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is view as the latest confidence building effort. India is the first non-socialist country that established the diplomatic ties with China and both governments worked very closely in the mid 1950s to formulate the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.
