Jin Shan began his career as a stage actor. Within a few years he moved on to Shanghai鈥檚 motion picture industry. When 鈥楽ong at Midnight鈥screened in Shanghai in 1937, it was one of the season鈥檚 biggest hits and made Jin Shan a star overnight.
