One of China's top political advisors, Ma Man Kei, has told CCTV that the anti-secession law conforms to the long term interests of all Chinese people, including the 23 million living in Taiwan. He added, the legislation is conducive to fostering peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits. Meanwhile, business people from Taiwan, as well as residents in Hong Kong and Macao, also hailed the new legislation as a "law for peace."
Ma Man Kei, vice chairman of the CPPCC standing committee said people on both sides of the Taiwan straits are compatriots, and that the anti-secession law is not aimed at alienating Taiwan compatriots.
CPPCC Vice Chairman Ma Mankei said, "The law is solely aimed at containing the secessionist activities of so called Taiwan independence forces. Investment and trade between Taiwan province and the Mainland, and the livelihood of Taiwan compatriots, will be protected, as ever."
Ma also called for Taiwan people to fully understand President Hu Jintao's four-point guideline on the mainland 's Taiwan policy under new circumstances. He said the guideline, along with the anti-secession law, indicates the mainland's sincerity on maintaining peace across the straits and achieving the peaceful reunification of the country.
Meanwhile, Taiwan businesspeople living on the Mainland have voiced support for the law.
Taiwan Investment Enterprises Assoc., Beijing Lin Yanhong said, "The anti-secession law is a law for peace, it's full of good will. The major part of the law concerns promoting cross-straits exchanges and enhancing economic and trade ties."
Also on Tuesday, the Hong Kong region's China peaceful Reunification Association held a seminar to express support for the law. The participants believe the law provides a powerful tool for China to maintain national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that it offers practical legal assurance for the development of cross-straits relations. They say the law conforms to the interests of people on both sides of the Taiwan straits.
Local media in Hong Kong and Macao have also extensively covered the anti-secession law. They say that to maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan straits, so-called Taiwan independence forces should be contained and opposed.
