The four medics, three from the Macao Special Administrative Region, left Beijing on Friday. They will join other Chinese medical staff already in Sri Lanka.

The medics also brought with them medicines desperately needed in the country.

Over in Thailand, two Chinese medical teams are already working with local health authorities in disease control and prevention. Some doctors are examining up to 90 patients a day.

China says it is standing by to provide more aid.

Mao Qinan, spokesman of Chinese Ministry of Health, said, "The rehabilitation in these countries has just begun. So apart from their own efforts, they will definitely need more international aid down the road, and China is ready in this regard. The State Council will coordinate such aid efforts once we receive the request."

Local medical facilities in provinces including Tianjin, Shandong and Jiangsu are gearing up for international aid missions.
