European Union health ministers have met in Brussels in response to the growing bird flu crisis in Asia. Twenty-five ministers met with World Health Organization officials to discuss ways to curb the spread of bird flu into the EU.
EU Health Commissioner David Byrne said: "A number of member states have already put in place an influenza preparedness plan. I have been working on this for some time in the Commission and I will be bringing forward an influenza pandemic preparedness plan for discussion in the Commission in a matter of weeks. This is really designed to ensure that we are ready in the event that something happens."
