China says the bird flu outbreak in five of its provinces has been brought under control thanks to stringent prevention and control measures. The news comes a day after the Ministry of Agriculture declared suspected bird flu cases in those areas.
The areas are Gansu and Shaanxi in the northwest, Anhui in the east and the central provinces of Hunan and Hubei. Local governments began culls and compulsory quarantine measures as soon as suspected cases were spotted. Samples have been sent to the National Bird Flu Reference Laboratory. No person has been reported to contract the disease.
