Germany says suspected case is not bird flu

In Germany, health authorities have stated that a woman suspected to be Europe's first case of bird flu did not have the disease. The female patient returned to Germany from Thailand Saturday with symptoms similar to those produced by the disease.

Fire fighters who transported the patient and a woman accompanying her to the tropical medicine institute, where she was examined, wore protective clothing and were disinfected after the journey. The second woman was also checked out, but had no symptoms.
