Karachi copes with bombing aftermath

Pakistan's interior minister has appealed for calm in the country's financial capital of Karachi.

The calls came after Monday's suicide bombing at a Shiite Muslim procession that killed 33 people, and a city-center riot that followed.

The attack was the third in as many days in Karachi. Some economists fear that further violence could impact investors' sentiment.

Police and paramilitary forces patrolled the mostly empty streets of Pakistan's commercial hub.

A military spokesman said on Monday night there was little possibility of the army being called into Karachi.

On Tuesday, public transport was not in service, and most shops and gas stations were shut after religious and political parties called for a day of mourning.
