Pakistani army advances toward major Taliban stronghold

The Pakistani army, says it's advancing toward a major Taliban stronghold in its offensive in South Waziristan. In the town of Kotkai, insurgents who fled the town ,continued to attack troops with rockets.

On Sunday, a suicide bomber killed a police officer south of Islamabad. This came a day after the army captured Kotkai, the hometown of the Pakistani Taliban chief, as well as one of his top deputies.

The army, says a majority of homes, in the town had been converted into "strong bunkers," and were a training camp base for suicide bombers.

The army also says, some of the fleeing Taliban have shaved their beards and cut their hair to blend in with civilians. An army statement, says the most recent fighting in the region has killed 15 militants and one soldier.
