China willing to push for denuclearization of Korean peninsula

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu has confirmed that officials of the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are visiting China at the same time.

The DPRK Vice Foreign Minister Kim Yong Il, met with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei. They exchanged views on issues of common concern.

Jiang added that US Special Representative for the DPRK, was scheduled to meet Chinese Foreign Minister, Yang Jiechi, and Vice Foreign Minister, Wu Dawei, later on.

Jiang Yu, spokeswoman, China Foreign Ministry, said, "China and the US will exchange views on the Korean peninsula nuclear issue and six-party talks. China is willing to make efforts to push for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula."

Bosworth arrived in Beijing on Thursday. He will then travel to Seoul and Tokyo over the weekend. The DPRK is not on his travel agenda.

Meanwhile, the US State Department says Bosworth would reaffirm the US commitment to the September 2005 Joint Statement and the six-party process.

In the Joint Statement, the six parties outlined their goal of a verifiable de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a peaceful manner.
