The 45th general election of the House of Representatives nears. The contest between the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its main opposition, the Democratic Party of Japan, has entered a crucial stage.

On Thursday afternoon, the incumbent Prime Minister and leader of the LDP, Taro Aso, took his campaign to the city of Yokohama.

Aso said that although the LDP's prospects didn't look bright, he still believed it could reverse the situation.

He also stressed that an LDP victory would bring the Japanese people real benefits.

Many supporters of the opposition DPJ, which is expected to win an absolute majority on Sunday, were also on hand. According to the Japanese media, many LDP politicians, including former Prime Ministers Shinzo Abe and Yasuo Fukuda, have also been taking part in the campaigning.
