KABUL, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of snow avalanches in a mountain pass in northern Afghanistan's Parwan province climbed to at least 150, a local official said Wednesday.
"The avalanches have killed 150 people so far," Mohammad Basir Salangi, Parwan provincial governor, told Xinhua reporter in Salang Pass, some 90 km north of Afghan capital Kabul.
Afghan National Security forces and medical teams of ministry of public health have been searching for survivors at the site of the accident. More people were feared to be still buried under snow.
Connecting Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul to the northern region, the mountainous area of Salang Pass has often claimed the lives of passengers over the past years.
