Special Report:   Harbin 24th Winter Universiade

HARBIN, Northeast China, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- China and Canada whitewashed their respective opponents on Thursday to breeze into women's curling final at the Harbin Universiade, slated for Feb. 18-28.

Host China advanced to the women's final after easing past Russia 11-2 in the two-hour games Thursday morning.

In the other semi-final, Canada overthrew Britain 7-5 in the ninth of 10 ends to reserve a seat in the final.

The Chinese and Canadian are to go all out for the gold in the women's final on Friday morning.

Unlike the World Championships, the top four in the round robin draw would breeze into the semi-finals, in which the first against the fourth and the second against the third for the two seats of the final.

It is the best-ever achievement of China's curling in the world large-scale winter competitions.

In the men's semi-finals earlier on Thursday, Sweden defeated China 8-7 and Norway edged South Korea 5-2 to advance into Friday's final.
