Special Report:   Harbin 24th Winter Universiade

MAOERSHAN, Northeast China, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Polish snowboarder Paulina Logocka broke her right arm before the Winter Universiade women's half-pipe final here on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old Polish prepared for her final in the last round training when her board got caught by the side of the ramp after she made a huge run down the course, resulting in a serious crash onto the hard ground.

After an immediate diagnosis and X-ray by doctors of the organizing committee, Paulina was confirmed a fracture in her forearm and needed at least three month recovery after a necessary surgery.

Under her teammate's advice, Paulina in bandage decided to receive the surgery after returning to Poland and said the injury hurt less then.

The Polish finished fifth among the six finalists after Tuesday's two-round heats, and said it was a pity that she couldn't ski in the final.

As an athlete at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Paulina was the bearer of the Polish flag at the opening ceremonies.
