About 150 supporters began gathering outside the embassy at around 12:30 p.m. local time on Monday. The demonstrators then started burning Chinese national flags and tossing bricks and stones. They broke windows, and damaged the roof, facade and walls of the embassy.

Dozens of the demonstrators were reportedly arrested by the Dutch police. Charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands, Zhang Daxing, is due to meet with the Dutch Foreign Minister to discuss the situation.

The Chinese Embassy warned the Netherlands about possible riots and asked for police reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said China strongly condemned the attacks on its foreign missions in the Netherlands and Germany. He said Eastern Turkestan elements and other unidentified people were responsible. Qing Gang added that both the Netherlands and Germany had pledged action to ensure the safety of Chinese diplomatic missions.
