Five people, including four US contractors, have been taken into Iraqi custody during an investigation of the killing of a US citizen in Baghdad.

A government spokesman says the five people were arrested on Wednesday during a raid on a security company operating in the Green Zone.

They are suspected of murdering a US citizen last month. The spokesman says the men were under investigation by an Iraqi judge and are subject to Iraqi jurisdiction.

The US contractors were believed to be the first Americans taken into Iraqi custody since a security agreement went into effect this year.

The agreement removed immunity from Iraqi law enjoyed by private US contractors.
