The Philippines has announced its first confirmed case of the A/H1N1 flu virus. The patient is a 10-year-old girl who had returned from a trip to the US and Canada.

Philippine Health officials said the girl was brought to hospital with a fever, sore throat and a cough. The girl is now recovering in hospital and doctors say her condition is improving. Her family is under quarantine.

Health officials said there is no community level outbreak in the country, and measures are being taken to prevent the virus spreading. The government is contacting people who were on the same flight as the girl.
