Two-time former Asian Cup champions South Korea will look to end a 47-year wait for a third title when the tournament kicks off this week.

South Korea won the inaugural Asian Cup in Hong Kong in 1956 and retained the title on home soil four years later. But they have failed to claim the hat-trick despite being one of Asia's big footballing forces.

Coach Pim Verbeek has suffered a huge blow with three of the biggest names in Korean football - Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo and Seol Ki-hyeon - all absent from the tournament through injury. The Dutchman will hope other players will be able to fill the gaps.

Verbeek believes that his team will be a force to reckoned with if he can find the right balance.
