San Lorenzo remain three points clear of Boca Juniors at the top of the Argentinian Clausura after both teams being held to draws. San Lorenzo finished with a goalless draw with ten-man River Plate, while Boca Juniors ended up a 1-all draw at home against Arsenal de Sarandi.
River Plate hold San Lorenzo to goalless draw
Leaders San Lorenzo hosted River Plate on Sunday. The hosts had the best possible start - when their opponents were reduced to ten men. Diego Galvan was given a straight red card for elbowing Diego Rivero in the fourth minute.
San Lorenzo however failed to make the most of their one man advantage. Striker Gaston Fernandez squandered several chances.
In the second half, Fernandez really should have given San Lorenzo the lead. But faced with an open net, he fired the ball against the crossbar and it deflected away to safety.
Meanwhile River also had chances to score. But neither side managed to break the ice and the match ended as a goalless draw.
Boca draw with Arsenal 1-1
While Boca Juniors missed the chance to closer the gap with the leaders, after being held to a 1-all draw by Arsenal. Boca had the better of the first half, but they didn't found the net during the first half.
Two minutes into the second half, Arsenal stunned the hosts. Carlos Casteglione fired home to put the visitors 1-0 ahead.
Veteran striker Martin Palermo came desperately close to levelling but his header came back off the crossbar.
On 76 minutes, Juan Roman Riquelme, on-loan from Spanish club Villarreal, found the equalizer with a fine header.
The match finished 1-all to leave Boca three points behind leaders San Lorenzo.
