Donations from the Chinese mainland have been pouring in to support Taiwan's disaster relief. On Wednesday, corporate members of the Mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits were quick to give their contributions.

The eighteen companies donated more than 100 million yuan and 5 million Hong Kong dollars for relief work in Taiwan. That's over two million US dollars in all. ARATS will give the money to Taiwan people through Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation.

Zheng Lizhong, deputy director of Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council, said, "All in all, we only have one hope--that is to help Taiwan compatriots recover from the disaster and return to a peaceful life."

The Mainland has been closely following the severe damage brought by Typhoon Morakot. Organizations, including the Chinese Red Cross Foundation and the All China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, are sending nearly 20 million yuan.

Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang party has thanked the Mainland for its concern over the island's losses. The Kuomintang says cross-Straits goodwill and interaction displayed in times of disaster should be cherished by people on both sides.
