Special Report: Iran presidential election 09 |
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is defending his victory in the country's presidential election. He has called on the defeated candidates to accept the results for the stability of the country.
But his arch rival, former prime minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi, is insisting that the election results be annulled.
The people have made their choice and it's time to move forward. That's the key message from the newly re-elected president's first news conference after confirmation of his overwhelming victory.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iranian President, said, "Indeed the nation rules in Iran, and the nation's election is real and free. People's votes rule in Iran, the most magnificent contemporary election took place on Friday in Iran."
Ahmadinejad also said the disappointment of some candidates is understandable. But he says the results of the election are unquestionable.
