Following the example of Guangdong Province, the municipality of Beijing is launching a wide-ranging promotional campaign for the local tourism industry. The city's tourism authorities are promising to implement a series of policies favorable to the local tourism sector.

The Beijing Municipal Tourism Bureau says Beijing will put the tourism sector at the top of the agenda for local development. Major holiday seasons, including May Day and National Day will be packaged into as many as ten tourism-theme months. The holiday packages will also include traditional celebratory occasions. All of the activity will help ensure the prosperity of the local tourism sector throughout the rest of 2009. Meanwhile, travel agencies have been encouraged to develop innovative packages to cater to the diverse demands of potential customers. In addition, favorable policies will be implemented to benefit tourists.

Zhang Huiguang, the director of Beijing Municipal Tourism Bureau said, "We will offer discounts to tourists in various sectors, including hotel accommodation, admission fees and transportation fare. A set of policies will be carried out to ensure that the prices stay within a reasonable range. We will play the role of a coordinator among relevant government agencies and business entities, so tourists can enjoy themselves in Beijing."
