Beijing's Capital International Airport has become a platform for Chinese folk art. From Wednesday, the airport has hosted performances and displays of traditional handicrafts at three of its terminals.

The vibrant Shehuo performance caught the eye of many passengers. The weary tourists were pleased to see culture originating from Baoji city, in northwestern China's Shaanxi Province.

A tourist said, "People get impatient while waiting to board. Now we won't, because there are such wonderful shows."

Mashao masks, embroidery and colorful figurines. Traditional culture from Baoji city was the first on show, as the Capital Airport launched its "Cultural Gateway" project.

Huang Gang, the vice manager of Capital International Airport said, "We intend to take advantage of the busy airport to promote traditional Chinese culture. These international tourists could help convey Chinese culture worldwide."

The Baoji Culture Exhibition would last until mid March. More distinctive intangible cultural heritages from other parts of the country will take their turn to be shown at the Beijing Capital Airport.
