The story of feisty, indomitable Scarlett O'Hara and the twists and turns of her dramatic life were written by Margaret Mitchell in a small apartment of this house, at 990 Peachtree Street, in the heart of Atlanta.

Flat number one, where the author lived with her second husband from 1925 to 1932, is now part of the Margaret Mitchell House Museum. It's a favourite for 'Gone With the Wind' book and movie fans. Arsonists set the house on fire in 1994 and 1996, but tourists from all corners of the world are coming back.

David Mitchinson, a tourist from England said, "I came here into Atlanta, I think for the first time at the beginning of the 1990's and they hadn't started the restoration. The house was all boarded up. Very sad it looked, so it's wonderful to come back and see it now all restored and all completed."
