While Hengqu villagers supply mainland Chinese with beautiful handmade lanterns, over 12 hundred lanterns have been made in China's eastern Fujian province. They are ready to travel from Mawei, across the Taiwan Strait, to Mazu.

The lanterns were selected from across Fujian province. Some of them are over 3 meters tall. As the zodiac animal of the year, the Ox, was a popular theme for the lanterns. Besides the traditional designs and features, the famous pandas Tuantuan and Yuanyuan have also been a popular inspiration for folk artists. The lanterns will light up the night in Mazu on Monday. In its 7th year, it's been a tradition for people in Mawei in Fujian and Mazu in Taiwan to celebrate the Lantern Festival in this way.
