Romeo and Juliet, one of the greatest love stories ever told, will be performed by the Birmingham Royal Ballet this Friday in south China's Guangdong province. The first show of the company's tour of China will be at the Baiyun International Convention Center in Guangzhou, Birmingham's sister city.

Sir Kenneth MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet will see 110 dancers from the Birmingham Royal Ballet grace the stage to the combined accompaniment of the Royal Ballet Sinfonia and the Orchestra of the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

With a sweeping score by Sergei Prokofiev and soaring choreography from a legendary master of modern ballet, Romeo and Juliet continues to be an all-time classic love story. Paul Andrew has designed a luxury stage setting recalling the Italian city of Verona.

The company is doing all it can to ensure the show keeps its authentic flavor. The costumes are works of art themselves, with each stitch sewn by hand. And the stage props alone take up eight whole train compartments as the company travels around the country. One small problem is that the principal female dancer has caught a little cold, but she's hoping it won't affect her too much.
