Guangzhou is known as an eating heaven. At an expo bringing together food, decor and playful items for the Spring Festival, the city's residents are not only buying local food delicacies, but also delicious snacks from Taiwan.

A Taiwan street has been set up at the expo, and its ample food offerings are thanks to the introduction of direct links between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.

The Taiwan street at the Guangzhou expo for Spring Festival shopping drew many locals. They were attracted by all the authentic food specialties from Taiwan. The spread included well-known fruits and snacks from the island. Locals are happy to enjoy the food items on offer, many of which they only knew by name and reputation and had yet to taste.

A Taiwan merchant said, "Thanks to the introduction of the direct links, the efficiency of transporting Taiwan products to the mainland has been greatly increased."

Some Taiwan merchants attending the expo expressed their intentions to open a store in Guangzhou due to the brisk consumption there.

Aside from food, the Spring Festival expo also attracts folk artists to make the on-the-spot items, such as windmills and ox-styled sweets.
