The Berlin Symphony Orchestra raised the curtain for the annual Harbin Summer Music Festival, Sunday. The annual musical fete is in Harbin, the capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province. Twelve artistic ensembles from around the world are participating this year.

The Chinese symphony "Ode to the Red Flag" opened the concert. The symphony extols the bravery and strength of the Chinese people in confronting adversity.
The Harbin Symphony Orchestra was formed a hundred years ago. But this is the first time it has played in concert with the world renowned Berlin Symphony. The result was a fine chemistry between the two.
More than 30 events - concerts, dance and drama, will be presented during the 16-day festival. Highlights include performances by Turkish and Israeli dancers and a reproduction of the classic Broadway musical The Sound of Music.
