Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 flu |
Hong Kong confirmed a new case of A/H1-N1 infection earlier on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the Special Administrative Region to seven. Meanwhile, Taiwan has confirmed a total of six cases.
The spread of A/H1N1 flu has shown no signs of slowing in Hong Kong. After two more reported cases on Saturday, local health authorities confirmed the seventh case in the region on Sunday.
The patient is a 21-year-old student studying in New York. She flew to South Korea from America on Wednesday, and then headed to Hong Kong aboard flight KE-607. She was sitting in Row 44.
The patient felt high temperature on Saturday, and went to hospital. She was then transferred to another hospital for quarantine. She is receiving medical treatment and is now in stable condition.
Health authorities say they will continue tracking down those who had close contact with the patient.
Taiwan's first confirmed patient of A/H1-N1 flu has recovered. The 52-year-old foreign national is a doctor who travelled from New York to Hong Kong and arrived in Taiwan on May the 18th. He developed a fever during the flight and was isolated for treatment after getting off the plane. The latest two tests results both showed negative of A/H1N1 virus. The patient was allowed to leave the hospital on Saturday night.
Taiwan health officials also confirmed a five-year-old girl as the sixth patient in the region on Friday. One of the girl's classmates also developed a fever on Saturday, but test results showed the child hasn't been infected.
The girl's kindergarten class has been temporarily cancelled and the local health department conducted a thorough disinfection of the school. Over 100 teachers and students from the kindergarten are now under quarantine at home.
