Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 flu |

Chinese students in Canada are taking measures against the A/H1N1 flu, after another Chinese overseas student back on the mainland was confirmed to have the virus. The Ministry of Education is calling for overseas students to strengthen disease prevention awareness and many are heeding the call.

The University of Toronto's Chinese Student Union is handing out leaflets on flu prevention.

Students are urged to wash their hands frequently, and keep parties to a minimum. Phone numbers for medical services are provided.

The campaign is reaching other universities via the Internet and Chinese-language broadcasts.

Hu Dapeng, Chinese student of University of Toronto, said, "Most Chinese students here are following the preventive measures. They go back to their dorms directly after class."

The leaflet also has advice for students who plan to return to China for summer vacation.

Shen Daming, Chinese student of University of Toronto, said, "The preventative information is circulating among student unions. For the safety of everyone, students who return home should abide by the rules and stay at home for the first week, if possible."

The Ministry of Education has sent messages to overseas students through embassies in disease affected areas. Students are encouraged to seek a doctor if they feel unwell and make sure they are healthy before returning home to China.

Chinese embassies are also stepping up monitoring of the health of Chinese students.
