Central China's Hunan Province now has its first confirmed case of A/H1N1 flu. That brings the total number on the Chinese mainland to 12. Tests confirm a young man who was on the same plane as a flu patient in Beijing does have the A/H1N1 virus.

The Hunan Provincial health department says the 19-year-old student from Changsha has been studying at a US university. He flew from New York to Beijing on Thursday aboard Air China flight CA982. On Friday, he took a taxi with his mother to the airport. They then boarded Air China flight CA1349 to Changsha, capital of Hunan province.

He developed a sore throat and cough on Friday and on Monday his condition worsened. He is now being treated in isolation at a local hospital. Three people who came into close contact with him are under medical observation.
