The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is fast becoming a hot destination for Taiwan investment. Over the past year, many Taiwan companies have moved from China's east coast to the southern region.

Due to surging labor and land costs, many Taiwan companies on China's east coast regions are shifting their production bases to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in South China. To attract even more Taiwan investment, Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi, is planning to build a Taiwan Industrial Park.

Wang Jianquan, general manager of Taiwan Cement corp (Guigang), says, "we plan to build another 1 or 2 plants in the region. We hope our output can be doubled by then, reaching 180-million tons."

Previously, economic cooperation between Guangxi and Taiwan companies mainly focused on tourism. But recently, most Taiwan entrepreneurs are investing in agriculture, industry, logistics, and high-tech sectors. The volume of investment has also surged.

Zhang Hanmin, chairman of Mainland Assoc of Taiwan Investment Enterprises, says, "we expect that Guangxi will attract nearly 10-billion yuan in investments from Taiwan enterprises over the next 3 years. I believe the future of Nanning will be as good as Dongguang's."

Liu Kan, Taiwan Affairs Office Director, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, says, "since the first Guilin-Taiwan Economic and Trade Fair in 2005, cooperation investments from the 2 sides have risen nearly 35 percent every year."

Figures show that Guangxi approved nearly 13-hundred Taiwan investment projects, representing a capital volume worth 2-and-a-half-billion US dollars. So far, Guangxi is the most popular investment destination among major Chinese cities for Taiwan ventures.
