Special Report: Cross-Straits Forum |
A forum on tourism across the Straits will feature in the week-long event in Xiamen. Again, cooperation has emerged as primary focus.
The Cross-Strait Tourism Forum brought together tourism officials and business participants from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. Topics up for discussion included travel cooperation between the two sides, and improving service quality. Several agreements have also been signed.
Ma Yong, Head of Cross-Strait West Bank Tourism Project, CNTA said "In our 11th 5-year plan, the China National Tourism Administration has proposed 12 tourism zones. The tourism zone at the West bank of Taiwan Strait is on the top of the list. Currently, we are still working on the construction stage for the west bank project. We are also strengthening cooperation with the east bank, to build the Cross-strait travel zone together."
The Taiwan Cross-Strait Travel Association of China says, more direct marine route services should be established in Fujian Province. And Taiwan's tourism sector is willing to cooperate if the mainland decides to use Fujian as the primary transit point to travel to Taiwan.
Fujain Provincial Tourism Bureau also says Fujian will work with some cities in Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangxi, as well as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao to boost regional tourism.
The Fujian Provincial Tourism Association has also singed Min'Nan-Taiwan tourism cooperation agreements with six top travel associations from Taiwan. The move is aimed at promoting healthy industry development between the two sides.
