About 40 countries and international organizations are building their own exhibition halls. Another 40 will rent locations and many others will share some exhibition centers during the 6 month-long event. A total of 234 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the expo, the highest number in the event's 150 year history.

Organizers say the United States has not confirmed its participation due to financial problems, but it is expected to give a positive response.
