HONG KONG, March 3 (Xinhua) -- There were 5,043 sale and purchase agreements for all types of building units received for registration in February, down 12.4 percent on January and 64.9 percent on February in 2008, a government press release said on Tuesday.

Using a 12-month moving average, the February figure fell 9.1 percent on January and 41.7 percent on February in 2008, a press release from the Information Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said.

The total consideration of these agreements was 15.9 billion HK dollars (2.05 billion U.S. dollars), down 15 percent on January and 69.5 percent on the same month in 2008.

Of the 5,043 sale and purchase agreements 4,487 were for residential units, down 8 percent on January and 64.3 percent on a year earlier.

The total consideration of these agreements fell 15.5 percent on January to 13.6 billion HK dollars (1.75 billion U.S. dollars). Compared with the same period in 2008, the figure dropped 68.9 percent, the press release said.
